Your role, your impact
Alithya’s Mainframe Modernization team is looking for dynamic individuals to help shape and build the future of legacy application modernization. We are working on an exciting service that involves analyzing, refactoring, and deploying modern code from legacy applications, empowering our clients to achieve their boldest goals.
As an AS/400 Specialist on this team, you will collaborate with experts throughout the entire code modernization process. Your work will enhance the performance, availability, scalability, and sustainability of our clients’ applications. You will gain a deep understanding of the implementation and operation of a complex modernization system, and you will have the opportunity to work closely with an Agile team that delivers continuously, seeing the real-world impact of your contributions across a wide range of clients.
Your day-to-day

Act as a subject matter expert on AS/400 platform behaviour, including RPG, CL, DDS programs, and database interactions;

Execute and analyze specific business or technical scenarios on the IBM i server to validate assumptions and outcomes;

Develop comprehensive test cases for legacy scenarios to ensure functional parity in the modernized application;

Analyze and document AS/400 platform characteristics that impact the transformation processes.
Keys to your success
-
Over 5 years of experience in RPG/CL and COBOL programming on the AS/400 platform;
-
Proven experience working in enterprise environments with complex business logic embedded in RPG applications;

Experience in RPG, CL, DDS, and DSPF programming;

Ability to manage files, including a solid understanding of libraries and members;

In-depth knowledge of the IBM i (AS/400) environment, including RPG, CL, data queues, message queues, job queues, and object locking mechanisms;

Ability to read, write, and analyze legacy code, as well as to understand and interpret underlying business logic;
-
Knowledge of batch and interactive processing, as well as user spaces;
-
Familiarity with message handling, job and output queues, and spool file management.
Extra edge

Experience with application modernization projects;

Familiarity with Java or an understanding of modern programming paradigms (a strong asset).

Please note that due to the nature of the responsibilities of the position, a proficient level of English is required, in particular to communicate on a daily basis with clients outside of Quebec.
